Do you write Christmas cards? In Canada, it’s very common. My father has always written(1) Christmas cards to his friends. However, I only began to write(2) them a few years ago. They are a good way to stay in contact with friends you haven’t seen(3) for a long time. I try to send(4) cards to my friends in Germany, Japan, and Canada. Also, I like to get(5) mail from my friends. I enjoy checking(6) the mailbox and seeing that a Christmas card has arrived(7). However, if you decide to write(8) Christmas cards to international friends, you have to remember to do it(9) early! International mail can be slow, so send them soon to avoid being(10) late.

Everyone, do you remember believing(1) in Santa Claus? Did you ever write him a letter and hope to get(2) a gift from him? I don’t mind saying(3) that I did when I was a child. On Christmas Eve, we never forgot to leave(4) cookies and milk for Santa. Then, when we woke up on Christmas morning, presents had appeared(5) under the tree. The tags had been(6) signed, “From Santa Claus.” Of course, I later learned that Santa had never(7) visited our house. I can’t remember how old I was. Anyway, I have known(8) the truth for many years. Now that I’m an adult, I have to avoid telling(9) the truth to children, because I want them to continue to believe(10).

Recently, the Takarazuka Revue was playing The Rose of Versailles. I wanted to see it, but on checking(1) the online ticket shop, I discovered it was sold out. I needed to get “toujitsu-ken,” or “same-day tickets.” In getting(2) toujitsu-ken, you should arrive(3) at the box office before it opens. I didn’t go early enough. When I arrived, I was surprised at(4) the long lines of people. The people at the front may have(5) come much earlier than I did. I regretted not having come(6) sooner. However, I thought, “There is no going back(7) now.” I knew I would get “tachi-mi-ken,” or “standing tickets.” When I got to the front, I was shown(8) a map of the theater. I was surprised! There was one remaining seat in which(9) I could sit! I chose it right away. I was very lucky, and being able to sit down while I watched the show made me(10) very happy.
